Soap opera actress and screenwriter Meg Bennett passed away at the age of 75. She began her career as an actress in 1972, playing Marty Maraschino in Grease. She transitioned into daytime soaps in the 1980s, joining The Young and the Restless as Julia Newman. Despite being written off of the show, creator Bill Bell offered Bennett the opportunity to write for it. Bennett's screenwriting career soared with credits on Santa Barbara in the early '90s, where she played author Megan Richardson. She also wrote for General Hospital from 1993 to 2011, portraying Allegra Montenegro on screen. Additional writing credits include Generations and Sunset Beach.

Bennett received five Daytime Emmy nominations for her writing on shows such as General Hospital and was nominated for Writers Guild of America Awards. She met her husband, Robert Guza Jr., who was formerly a head writer on the show. They celebrated their twentieth wedding anniversary this year. Bennett is survived by her husband, two stepdaughters, four grandchildren, a brother and sister, and a bevy of nieces and nephews.
